CUSTOM SOFTWARE / SYDNEY
Custom software, built around how you already work.
When the tool you need doesn't quite exist, we build it. Small systems, internal tools and workflows for businesses in Sydney, made to fit the way the job actually runs rather than the other way round.
Deskarti is an independent software lab in Sydney. The person who scopes the work is the person who writes the code, and every build starts with a written scope, a fixed price and a date.
What counts as custom software
Usually something smaller than the phrase suggests. A quoting tool that knows your pricing rules. A job sheet your field staff can update from a phone. A customer portal where people can see where their order is without ringing you. A screen that pulls three systems into one view so nobody has to check all three.
It's custom because it follows your process, not because it's big.
When it's worth building
Off-the-shelf software is cheaper and faster when it fits, and we'll say so. Custom is worth it when one of these is true:
- The tool you have can't do the one thing your business depends on.
- You're paying for three subscriptions to get one workflow.
- Someone is retyping data from one system into another every day.
- The process is what makes you different, and no product is going to have it built in.
If none of those apply, you probably don't need us yet. We'd rather tell you that than build something you'll stop using.
How the build runs
Three steps: Understand, Make, Ship. Understand maps every step of the process as it runs today, including the ones that go wrong, and ends with a written scope, a fixed price and a date. Make gets the software working end to end before anything gets styled. Ship puts it live with alerts, written steps for when something breaks and the access to run it yourself.
Small jobs are welcome. How we price explains how quoting works and what happens after launch.
Nearby work
A lot of custom software turns out to be a booking system with unusual rules, a payment flow that has to land in your accounting or a website that does something. Those pages go into each in more detail.
Questions
Can you build custom software around an existing business process?
Yes, that's the usual starting point. We map the process as it runs today, including the steps that go wrong, then build the software to match it. Where the process itself has a problem we'll point it out, but we won't make you change how you work just to suit the software.
Do you replace the tools we already use?
Only when they're the problem. Most of the time the right build sits alongside what you have and connects to it: your calendar, your accounting, your point of sale. Replacing a system that works is expensive and rarely necessary.
Who owns the software?
You do, once the final invoice is paid. That includes the code, the accounts it runs on and the access. It's built on ordinary tools any developer can pick up, so nothing depends on us staying around.
